Luxury on the Water: Experience the Elegance of Legacy Yachts

The Downeast-style boat has long been a favorite among experienced boaters. Originating as a working boat for fishermen off the coast of Maine, its deep-v hull and bow flare make it well-suited for the rough waters of the Northeast Atlantic Ocean. Today, there are numerous manufacturers worldwide producing different variations of Downeast yachts, but none with the same history and pedigree as Legacy.

The early 1990s saw the introduction of Legacy Yachts through Freedom Yachts in Rhode Island, a builder of high-quality sailing yachts. The first Legacy models were a 40’ Downeast yacht designed by Mark Ellis and a 28’ lobster-style day boat, both built for speed, performance, and efficiency. As the boats gained popularity, Legacy emerged as a leading force in the boating industry until the global economic recession of 2008.

Adversity brought opportunity, leading to the acquisition of Legacy Yachts in 2010 by an esteemed sailing yacht builder, who then relocated production to their state-of-the-art factory in Fairport Harbor, Ohio. This move provided access to top-quality materials and innovative design and construction techniques, enabling the Legacy brand to achieve a higher level of quality. Today, the Tartan factory offers three Legacy models: The 42, 36, and 32.

"Legacy Yachts Have Good Bones"

While many boat builders rely on new components and gadgets, Legacy Yachts focuses on using the best possible materials and methods to create a boat with "good bones." The laminates used on Legacy’s hulls are a unique combination of uni-directional E-glass, synthetic foam coring, and an epoxy-modified vinyl ester resin, resulting in one of the strongest and impact-resistant laminates in the industry. The resin-infusion process ensures a strong, stiff, and flexible hull, giving Legacy Yachts a longer-lasting and newer appearance compared to other manufacturers.

Classically Elegant Interiors That Are Simply Beautiful

Legacy Yachts: A Breath of Fresh Air

Unlike the dark, windowless rooms of the past, Legacy Yachts prioritize ventilation to ensure no owner or guest feels trapped. Stainless steel, CE-approved deck hatches and strategically placed portholes maximize ventilation opportunities, allowing for a comfortable and relaxing experience on board. The timeless elegance and hand-crafted artistry of Legacy Yachts make them a desirable choice for cruising boaters seeking quality, performance, and elegance.
